I’m kelly, a writer based in minneapolis/st.paul focused on popular culture, big emotions, and the complexities of real life.
As of may 2025, I write the #72 bestselling ‘culture’ newsletter on substack: a twice weekly newsletter called THE OPT OUT about womanhood without motherhood that was once described as “a letter from your wise but funny yet kind friend” and “the safest place on the internet.” THE OPT OUT was the #1 rising newsletter in the same category in april 2025.
Reality tv is my guiltiest pleasure, and I am currently seeking representation for my debut novel, which was loosely inspired by LOVE ISLAND.

From 2018-2023 I wrote dozens of personal essays for cupcakes and cashmere, where I worked as the director of marketing for nearly 7 years. I’m currently a full-time writer and marketing consultant working on my second novel.
I called los angeles home for over a decade before deciding I was sick of sunshine and perfect weather in 2022. I have a master’s degree in marketing from the university of southern california, where I graduated as valedictorian in 2019. I currently live (and work) in a 1970s treehouse with my husband and our dog named pig.
